Adapted from a chapbook entitled 'The History of Mother Shipton', reprinted in 'Chap-books of the Eighteenth Century' by John Ashton (1882). Mother Shipton was a 16th century herbalist and prophet from Yorkshire, England, who was thought by some to have presaged the fall of Cardinal Wolsey and the Great Fire of London.
